Why does my Fee Earner Report not match the General Ledger Detail - Income Accounts?
The short answer is that the Fee Earner Report works on different parameters to the General Ledge Detail - Income Account
The Fee Earner report deals with the work that was done in a given period. Exactly where it appears in the report is based on the date the work was done. For example a time entry was entered in June, then that amount would only be shown in June regardless of when it was invoiced. - to be clear, the Fee Earner Report takes into consideration unbilled time entries.
However, unbilled time entries are not present in the Accounts system and as such do not appear on any Journal reports directly.
The General Ledger Detail comes from the Journal system and are as a result of invoices being issued. The date the invoice appears in the journals is based on the date the invoice was issued and not when the work was done. Again, it does not take into consideration unbilled time entries.
This means there is a timing difference between the 2 reports, one is based on the date the work is done, and the other is based on the date the work was invoiced. Additionally they only go into the journals once invoiced.
Below are some example scenarios to illustrate possible timing differences.
Scenario 1 : Work unbilled - in Fee Earner report but not in the General Ledger
Scenario 2 : Work done in Aug and invoiced in Aug - in Fee Earner report for Aug and in Ledger report for Aug
Scenario 3 : Work done in Aug but invoiced in Sep - in Fee Earner report for Aug, not in Ledger report for Aug. Not in Fee Earner report for Sep, but in Ledger report for Sept
