What template fields do I use to get data for matter contacts

There is a specific syntax available for retrieving specific data for specific matter contact/role for a matter. That syntax allows you to specify the role, which contact and what data field you want as well as being able to format the data as well.

SILQ variables have a very specific syntax as per this article however that syntax can be extended further to access matter contact information.

The standard syntax is <vartype:varname[:varformattype[:varformatextra]]>

When preparing field, you will need to enter the varname in a specific format which in the form:

role(position,[fieldprefix]field)

  • role : the role of the correspondent whose information you are attempting to retreive. See below for a full list of roles available, but be aware that some roles are limited to specific matter classes.

  • position : the ordinal position within that role of the correspondent. Ie 1 = first, 2 = second, etc

  • fieldprefix - field prefixes allow you to access additional related information that is stored on other contact card that is associated with the selected correspondent:
    • f- : this prefix will tell the system that the information we are asking for is not stored on the contact card itself, but the firm contact card for the select correspondent
    • sol- : is prefix tells the system to get the data for the solicitor of the selected correspondent
    • sol-f- : is prefix will tell the system that the information we are asking for is from the firm/company of the solicitor for the selected correspondent.
    • rep- : This is the correspondents representative. This will use the solicitor's details if the correspondent has one, otherwise it will use the details of the correspondent if they don't.
  • field : this is the data field that is required. See below for a full list of the available fields

It will still support formatting like regular fields and you can still use it with E/N/PE/PN/MULTI fields.

Some examples

  1. <i:m-plain(2,sub)> - this will get the second plaintiff's suburb

  2. <i:m-vend(1,for)> - this will get the first vendors formal name
  3. <i:m-employee(1,dateofbirthraw):d:18> this will get the date of birth for the 1st employee and format the date in the format style 31 January 2025
  4. <e:m-employee(1,dateofbirth)> - this will remove the line if the first employee date of birth is empty.
  5. <n:m-employee(1,addr1)> this will remove the line if the first employee's address 1 is not empty.
  6. <i:m-vend(2,sol-for)> - this will get the name of the solicitor of the second vendor
