How does the Partner Distribution report work?
The Partner Distribution Report offers detailed insights and calculations on invoiced revenue versus incurred expenses per matter owner, enabling transparent tracking of KPIs and partner profit distribution allocations.
This report is only available to users on the Enterprise billing plan for Solicitors.
The Partner Distribution Report is designed to give law firms full visibility over the performance of matter owners (typically partners or principals) by comparing revenue generated against expenses incurred. This helps support transparent bonus calculations, KPI tracking, and strategic financial planning at the partner level.
Why Use This Report?
-
For Financial Transparency: Identify which Matter Owners or matters generate high margins vs. those that run at a loss.
-
For Distribution Calculations: Use the Margin column as the basis for revenue contribution per partner.
It can be run with both itemised data (each entry in a matter) and aggregated totals and can be run for any time period.
The report has been split in such a way where each partner can run the report but obtain data only for themselves, or the finance team / managing partners can run the report to show profitability across all partners within the firm.

EXPLANATION OF OPTIONS
The fields & values in the report are explained as follows:
-
Matter - The report will be grouped by matter overall with a further breakdown by owner & fee earner. The report will display the matter number, matter description and client.
-
Hours - The total billable units recorded for each matter as a whole. Regardless of whether the fee earner bills in units, hours, minutes etc SILQ will convert them to hours in order to be in line with the employee cost which is calculated as an hourly rate.
-
Write Off/Disc. - The amount of professional fees written off, discounted or uplifted (excluding GST). All write off's and discounts will be grouped together and added to this field as a summary total. Further down in the report you will see the individual write off's, uplifts and/or discounts displayed in the following colours:
Write Off's - Orange
Uplifts - Blue
Discounts - Red
Please note
-
Amount Ex. - The total amount invoiced to the client, excluding GST for that particular matter.
-
Emp. Cost - The internal cost incurred by the firm for the staff member doing the work. This is calculated using their staff costing.
-
Margin - The net profit as a total for the matter, calculated as: Amount Ex. - Emp. Cost.
In the Write off/Disc, if the number is positive there was a discount/write off. If it is negative, it is an uplift. Additionally, the description of the discount(in red) / uplift (in red) will indicate what invoice it was on.
Whilst the above items are summary fields for the matter, if you have the show detail checkbox ticked, you will also see the below fields specific to each time entry within the matter.
- Matter Owner - This row will only be shown once per matter owner, signalling all matters underneath this belong to that MO.
