Document Register Top Toolbar

We have explained what each button in the document register does.

Refer to the screen shot above:

  • New Doc Record: This allows you to create a new document for a specific matter. It will prompt you to select a matter if necessary.
  • Edit Doc Record: This allows you to make changes to the selected document entry. (Not the document itself)
  • Delete Doc Record: This allows you to delete the selected document entry. (Not the document itself)
  • Duplicate Doc Record: This allows you to duplicate an existing record - it will pre-populate the information identically to the record you highlighted before clicking on the duplicate record button.
  • Open Matter Folder: This will take you to the folder within your NetDrive account (OneDrive, SharePoint or DropBox, whichever of these you use). The folder will be specific to the matter you are currently in.
  • Open Document: This will open the file immediately in an online version of Word, Excel or other type of file. If you are using SharePoint or OneDrive it will immediately open in Word/Excel etc Online. If you are using DropBox it will open in a viewer and then Dropbox provides an option to open it for editing in Word/Excel etc Online. SharePoint, OneDrive & DropBox also provide an option that allows you to open the document in the desktop version of Word from their online versions (at this point you are no longer in SILQ, therefore this is a feature these applications provide to you).
  • Open In Word: (this button is not currently displayed in the above screenshot, however is live in your software) This button will be greyed out if you are using DropBox as DropBox does not support this. If however, you are using SharePoint or OneDrive, this button will be clickable and as such will open the document directly to your Desktop version of Word. It will require that Word is installed on that computer/device.
  • Load Document: The load document compares your NetDrive account (OneDrive, SharePoint or DropBox, whichever of these you use) to the records you have within SILQ. If the software finds that there is a document in your NetDrive that SILQ does not have a record for, it will create the record for it, simply by pressing this button. This is useful if you have client information that was sent to you and saved into your NetDrive and you want to ensure it is recorded in SILQ also. There are many other reasons this is useful too such as if you have moved software provider and want to import documents for a particular matter.
  • Email Document: Having done what you need to with a document, it is an easy process to then email a document (or multiple using tagging) to anyone using the Email Document button. This will show the documents window where you can select an email to generate and it will attach the currently selected document to the email. If using Tagging then it will attach all the tagged documents.
  • Manage Emails: This will open the Manage Emails window where you can save emails or attachments from your inbox into the document register.
  • Open Matter Folder: This will take you directly to the folder on your hard drive or online document system where the documents that are listed in the document register are located.
