A client has changed their name and I have updated the contact in SILQ, do I need to do anything else?
The short answer is no.
If a client (individual or company) changes their name, all you need to do is to update that name in SILQ via editing the contact name and SILQ will do the heavy lifting for you.
Just be mindful of whether you have any duplicates in the contacts list of this particular contact. If you do have duplicates you can either delete the duplicates (which is what we suggest) or make sure to update the name for both contacts.
For example,
1. The client associated with a matter will automatically change to the updated name
2. and WIP that has yet to be invoiced will now be associated to the updated name
3. Any unpaid invoices previously raised in the old name, will now have the new name listed and can be re-generated and re-sent to the client
The only exception to this is in the Trust window. As per the Law Society Trust rules, SILQ is required to keep all transactions as they were entered at the time. When it comes to trust, you will see the trust statement will reflect the previous name on the transaction listings up until the date of the name change in SILQ.
